Kalapalo Village Kuarup

Xingu Indigenous Park

Kalapalo village hosting a Kuarup. The Kalapalo tribe is located in the Xingu River Indigenous Park in Mato Grosso, Brazil. The Kalapalos are a Carib-speaking tribe and were once known for their fierce warriors. Some have even theorized that the Kalapalo Indians were responsible for the disappearance of Col. Percy Fawcett, a British adventurer who disappeared in 1925 searching for the fabled "City of Z," a lost Amazonian civilization. Interestingly, to this day the Kalapalo play a prominent role in protecting the Xingu Indians from outsiders by patrolling the borders of the Indigenous Park of the Xingu, and stopping cattle ranchers from invading the indigenous reserve.
